Sharp has manufactured a solar-powered, water-proof handset for Japanese operator KDDI and it should hit Japan by June. This KDDI solar-powered handset comes equipped with a solar panel that can soak up sun lights much more quickly than other solar-powered cellphones.

The KDDI solar phone is integrated with a waterproof panel, making it a better choice for careless users who will always drop their phones into water. The solar panel of this phone needs only 10 minutes of sun absorption to provide two hours of standby or a minute of talk time. The one-minute talk time with the 10-minute sun exposure is no doubt is too short, but it should be sufficient for an emergency call.

The solar panel alone is also able to charge the battery up to 80%, but KDDI does not provide information about how long it takes to reach 80%. But using solar power to charge the phone is recommended than the normal charge as it reduces CO2 emissions. Currently, there is no information about its exact release date and price.
