Contra Classic Game

Posted by hina on under Accessories, Gaming, Software | Comments are off for this article

Not too sure if you still remember your childhood classic games. Games those days were not too flashy in graphics or complicated in nature, yet just as if not double the fun. I happened to chance upon an old classic game Contra in which it brought back many wonderful memories. Those were the days where you know you can only have those limited time to enjoy a game or two before you have to go to bed early.

Indeed those classic old games cannot be comparable with the likes of the modern graphics. No fancy gimmicks or complicated storylines, just simple and easy to pick up. Yet, those wonderful memories held a special place in my heart. I suppose sometimes things do not need to have a reason why.

In the Internet era, the most expensive properties are those intellectual properties such as popular web properties and portals like Google, Yahoo, eBay, YouTube etc.

The traditional Monopoly game has been modified to become a new Internet game board called Googolopoly, which is a Monopoly game board that have all the popular web properties as the playing squares.
Googolopoly – Google styled Monopoly game board
It’s similar to playing on the traditional Monopoly. But those landed properties, expensive houses etc are now replaced with those super expensive Internet properties.

Such as the “Chance”cards on the Googolopoly game board has also been replaced with the famous “I’m Feeling Lucky” Google cards.

There is a little funny square, once you hit a PAGE NOT FOUND, error 404, then you’ll need to be jailed in this 404 square. On this game board, you’ll need to fill all the squares with people, new servers and eventually the websites, forming multi-billion companies like Google, eBay, YouTube etc.

The creators of this game are those folks on Box.net, which they got little bored with their working lives and had thought of this Googolopoly to let you have fun taking part to rule the Internet as what Google has almost achieved, even though you don’t work in Mountain View.

Japanese weird gaming gadget: A 5-second stop watch!

Posted by hina on under Accessories, Gaming, Watch | Comments are off for this article

Japanese always crave for some little weird gaming gadgets. They’ll never run out of ideas and produce various strange gadgets, such as this one, a 5-second stop watch game, which the objective is kind of weird, i.e. to stop the stopwatch at exactly 5 seconds.
Japanese weird gaming gadget: A 5-second stop watch!
You would have thought that it’s kind of easy to stop the the stopwatch at exactly 5 seconds. But it’s not! As once you start the watch, the running digits on the LCD display will disappear, so you can’t see how many seconds that it’s run through. Unless you count it along in your heart, and press the button when you think it’s reached the 5th second!

There is an online flash game that shows how this stopwatch works. I’ve tried a few times the online version, the closest I got was 4.89 seconds. The most effective way to get to the closest, is to count using your fingers, as if they’re the ticking second hand of a watch. Anyway, this 5-second stopwatch will hit stores in Japan on Jul, 26, 2008. It’d most probably become another hot trend in Japan, just like the Tamagotchi!

Armado – 3D game for the iPhone
Armado is the first release developed and released under their new company, Tricky Software’s banner, which they shall have invested lots of effort into it to make it to work best for you. The Armado shall give you pretty good impression according to the reviewer, which the two early good ones that can be expected from this 3D game are the pleasant initial menu screen that greets you with a nice soundtrack and professionally cut and narrated scenes and backstory while you’re stepping into the game levels.

In the game, you’re an armadillo which you need to save some eagles from those ants. You’ll have to move up and down a mountain but you’re restricted to move forwards and backwards only. To do this, you can only tilt the iPhone. Tapping on the iPhone screen lets you jump to avoid obstacles. Tap twice results in a double jump. Jumping on enemies seems to be pretty hard, even though you can prolong your stay in the air by tilting the device.
